至于翡翠为什么会呈现白色，这是由于在形成过程中，内部所构成的化学成分非常纯净，没有任何致色元素所致。白色翡翠结构松散，矿物颗粒之间留有空隙，残留了空气或者其它物质，因此大部分的白色翡翠的透明度并不高。但若一颗白色翡翠属于冰种的话，透明度低的这一缺点就被很好地规避掉了，因此白冰翡翠可以说是身兼冰种翡翠和白色翡翠二者所长。
